I switched from FlashDevelop to Powerflasher FDT 4 beta about 2 months ago and have a lot of things to say about what a great decision it was, I intended to write a series on posts on how to made that move before but unfortunately i haven’t had the time it deserves, so on the next few posts i will cover some tips and tricks that will hopefully will show You how easily and fast is to make that switch and start enjoying truly coding comfort in no time, believe me it’s worth the try.

Yes they released the version 3.3.0 RTM a great release with new features liked the .svn .git support haven’t had time to play with the new features hope this weekend I can check it out. And with this series of posts I don’t mean to start a FlashDevelop vs FDT debate I do love working on FlashDevelop, this post will be about my personal experience with FDT and what I like about it.
Um – they released a version with svn support in 2010 – how the hell have people been using it ?
I just never understood Fd.
Have been on FDT for years – whats the benefits of v.4 ?
Some of the new features of FDT are:
Advanced Code Completion (Both As3 and MXML).
Flex 3 & Flex 4 support.
The Font Library Creator.
Flash CS4 & CS5 support.
Launcher Chain.
Projects Templates.
Dependency Visualizer among other new features and improvements.
Hi, i think thah FlashDevelop its great, and Free, you can donate anything u want
FDT its a expensive software, maybe if it was cheaper it will be a great option
H César, I also think that FlashDevelop it’s a great and free tool and again let me state that with this posts I only try to share my opinion and the things that I find cooler about FDT, I normally would say that I didn’t like FDT or FlashBuilder because they’re on top of Eclipse that compared to FD is too slow, but once i had my copy of FDT installed on Eclipse and customized as I need it believe me it runs fast. Compile Time has been greatly improved on FDT4 and when working with larger projects the testing and profiling tools help You a lot, sure it has a price that FD don’t but in my opinion is a price worth paying compared with how fast you can develop, test and debug on it and how your productivity boosts using it.
Hi Again, i really understand your point about FDT and i appreciate it, you said that you dont have enought time for posting
but an a Benchmarking test about the compliler time… it would be awesome, personally i late more with the Papervision framework to complile animations, great blogs men, greetings!
Hi César,
A benchmarking test on compile times would be good, will try to do that and post about it, thanks for your kind comments.
Greetings!
Hey man!
I did the same, but do you know how can I use Class Templates in FDT?
In FlashDevelop I used all the times, you create a class template and it appears in the menu (right click package > new > CustomClass).
Thanks
Yes in FDT 4.2 there’s a very powerful way of doing Project Templates check out the docs for more info: http://fdt.powerflasher.com/docs/Project_Templates and there’s also FDT Quickfix Templates if You want to insert code snippets in your file.

A few days ago FlashDevelop team released version 3.3.0 with a LOT of new features (including “coding comfort”) and I see no more reasons to make the switch.
